Have you heard of Zendaya, the young American, I want to say, singer? Or actress? Anyway, she’s a something or other and she’s already known by her first name alone so, that’s impressive.
If her name rings a bell it might be because she was involved in an uncomfortable race debate last Oscartime when Giuliana Rancic of E! made comments of her hair looking like it smelled of weed (yes, really) and she retaliated with a dignified and eloquent Instagram post.
The hairstyle in question was dreadlocks and, paired with her wedding gown-esque dress, was the first of many unique ensembles that caught my eye. Zendaya, you see, has style.
Imagine that dress on a Taylor Swift or a Selana Gomez. Sure, it would be very pretty but yeah, it would be very pretty. Zendaya is one of those rare people – she walks among the Tilda Swintons and Rihannas of the world – who can make everything look cool. Granted, it’s Vivienne Westwood so it’s already got attitude but again, it’s wedding-y. Her styling and yes, her unexpected hairstyle and her general demeanor make it Zendaya.
How can a nineteen year old who I’m fairly sure no one over the age of sixteen has ever seen sing or act or dance, or whatever she does, stay in the spotlight? In the same way as Kate Bosworth and Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo, I think; through her personal style.
She turned up to an event last night and ‘shocked’ people with her blonde pixie cut. So she’s the type of person who can pull off a blonde pixie cut, got it.
And she glided down the red carpet in this Marchesa wonder looking every inch the Hollywood starlet:
And she shortened it for the after party. *slow clap*
Day time jumper and heels:
A plaid dress (plaid!)

That coat.
She’s still very young but these are the looks of young woman with genuine interest in fashion. You heard it here first; she’s one to watch.
