This isn’t a post about LFW and it’s not a post about an awards ceremony. It’s about a trend I’ve been observing and one I really like. The shift dress is back!
Let me tell you why I’m totally on board with the humble shift and let me tell you it’s pretty much totally for selfish reasons. It’s about my proportions.
You see, I have a short torso and ‘long’ legs (and ‘shelf hips’ if I believe what Google tells me.) Tight dresses and tops and high rise skirts and pants don’t suit me and neither do tight dresses. But who wears tight dresses these days anyway? No one, because it’s all about the shift. And never mind my self-centred reasons, the shift suits everyone.
I attended an SS15 fashion show Wednesday morning in Clerys and while the looks on the catwalk were very nice indeed my eye was on the women on the FROW (FYI everyone who attended was on the FROW, that was how the place was laid out. It was very clever!) There was a distinct preference for lovely hair – oh, the lovely hair – nice, lowish heeled ankle boots and patterned shift dresses. Cool, casual and chic altogether and perfect for both day and night and of course, day to night.
This leather shift is what I really, really want. It’s great for all seasons and covers all bases.
How simple is the look above? And how effective? Love those purple peep-toed boots. LOVE the grey shift. (And yes, I love the big clutch.)
Summer work outfit sorted!
Blogger Ella Catliff (La Petite Anglaise) wears it well.
We couldn’t leave out Alexa! Sleeves work. And double trend it with denim.
Walking down the runway for Vivienne Tam SS15
Hitting Penneys later this year!
The shift touches on the retro trend. It’s great for showing off legs but is still demure! You don’t have to show a lot of skin, except for legs but you can cover them up with tights – but it’s still sexy as hell.
