2015 is the year Marty McFly flew into in Back To The Future Part II. We’re in the future! We ARE the future! But as far as fashion is concerned, we’re going back in time.
There are many frankly boring, seen-it-all-before trends for SS15; military (we’ll be wearing khaki trousers and silk, floaty shirts); floral prints (this year they’re going big) and denim (let’s see if doing it by the double looks good this time around) but one of the biggest themes on the catwalks during the last fashion weeks of 2014 was the 1970s.
Some naysayers call it the decade that fashion forgot but many, no, most of the big fashion houses were feeling nostalgic this season and it showed in their collections. Uninspired they may admittedly be, but it’s an easy and chic look to emulate – and so we shall.
- Chloé SS15
That A-line skirt, the winged collar, the suede…it’s retro a go-go over at Chloé. A wide, winged shirt was also seen under a grey shorts suit (short but modest shorts and a hem skimming, big but tailored jacket) that we are definitely on board with.
- Louis Vuitton SS15
There were so many nods to the ’70s from Nicolas Ghesquiére’s collection for Louis Vuitton I couldn’t possibly picture them all. From hippy-esque mini prairie dresses teamed with knee-high boots (as seen above) to plastic, striped shift dresses and A-line skirts, to pleated trousers and pussy bows, the ’70s were all over LV’s catwalk. Oh, go on then, because we like this collection so much, here’s another pic:
- Emilio Pucci SS15
Sigh, fringes are still a thing. This poncho, eh, dress and brown suede boots is probably a hint to what kind of garb will be traipsing around festival fields this summer. Paisley prints were walked down the runway too, so I’ll be getting the dress I bought in Zara in 2011 out again. These fashion cycles are getting narrower and narrower.
- Gucci SS15
Gucci looked at the ’70s in a more grown up light, think glamorous air hostess off-duty (we even spied a jaunty neck scarf!), although cowboys and suede featured too. If you’re looking for an ultra modern take on the seventies, look no further than Gucci. By the way, is it just me or is Gucci giving the Burberry trench a run for its money?
- Saint Laurent Paris SS15
There was more than a hint of Jane Birkin at Studio 54 on Hedi Slimane’s runway. Our day to night going out look is now absolutely sorted.
Before I sign off, I must wish you a Happy New Year! Do you like our new look? Why not tweet to us @TMCM_Ireland, or find us on Facebook and let’s chat! To a great 2015!
