Weather reports have been coming thick and fast in anticipation of the June Bank Holiday, and not one of them appears to be consistent. Highs of 20 degrees, thundery showers, mild and grey, cool and breezy – it’s anyone’s guess really. But isn’t it always, in this fair green island of ours? It’s enough to drive you to three days in bed watching Netflix and Friends re-runs.

But if you’re planning on braving the long weekend, making the very best of it whichever way the sky decides to bless us, combat your moody blues by embracing them!
When we were very small nippers our parents were compelled to dress us in similar outfits in different colours – helpful for confused strangers confronted with identical twins, but this face-saving tactic tended to restrict my side of the wardrobe to a sea of pink and yellow while TMs was mostly awash with blue and green. Funny then, that blue in all its shades has crept into my current closet; handy too, as it’s the colour of the season!
This would be my pick for a sunny day at the Bloom Festival in Dublin or for a wander around the myriad of other events happening around the country. Navy pin-striped shorts, a three-quarter length navy shirt, pastel blue necklace, sandals and a pink sun hat will cover all the bases!
Have you ever gone wrong with a Breton top and a pair of baby blue denims? Add a pair of silver heels (another trend to give a go) and a pair of blue framed sunglasses (or in my case 3D glasses from the cinema last weekend!) for a pleasant stroll on the Galway Prom armed with a 99 or a wistful afternoon in a cafe with a coffee or five.
I found this blue skirt (high waisted, midi, ticks all the boxes!) for €3 in Penneys a few months ago, but I haven’t worn it until recently. I’ve put a loose leopard print top and sandals with it for a dressed-up casual look, but a pair of heels would look chicer and will take you from day to night wherever you are. Keep the sandals in your bag for later though!
So Happy Long Weekend folks, have a great one! And if you do decide to spend it in bed with SATC and pizza, a pair of blue PJs will see you through…

Please note that next week we’ll have our Bank Holiday Post on
Wednesday, 4th June!
